Major League Baseball did it in 1994, The National Hockey League did it in in 2004 and the National Football League, Americas most popular professional sports league, could do it in 2011. I’m talking about a strike, a lockout, a picket, a boycott; I’m talking about the fact that after the 2010 season, it is likely that the NFL players may strike. Here’s why:

The National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) and the NFL owners agreed a while back to a salary cap that would end after the 2009-2010 season (now). They would then sit down and talk again about a new salary cap. Unfortunately, this time they haven’t been able to come up with some sort of agreement which means that the 2010-2011 season will be uncapped and then they will sit down at the end of that season to try to negotiate again.

First, what does an uncapped season mean for the NFL? It means that major market teams in major market cities such as New York, Dallas, Chicago, LA and a few more can spend all the money they have to buy up all the expensive free agents. Sound familiar? (see: New York Yankees/Boston Red Sox). Smaller market teams like Cincinnati, Cleveland, Buffalo, Kansas City, Jacksonville and couple others could be left in the dust when big name players go after big money. The Bengals couldn’t compete with The Giants in spending even if Mike Brown wasn’t cheap. So what does that mean? Well, it means that there is a decent chance that whoever wins the Super Bowl next year could have bought the Super Bowl.

Well, it’s just one year right? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it’s possible that it may not be just one year. Representatives from the NFLPA have said that if they play a season without a salary cap, they will never play with a salary cap again. It’s much like a kid who has never tasted sugar. He has no idea what he’s missing doesn’t crave sweets. Then you give him one piece of chocolate and next thing you know, he has a sweet tongue that would rival Willy Wonka’s. He’ll want sugar, or in this case tons of money, all the time.

Well, what could this possibly do to the NFL? Well, let’s look at baseball for a minute. The Yankees spent the most money in 2009 with a team payroll of $201,449,289. The Florida Marlins spent the least amount with a 2009 payroll of $36,814,000. That’s a $164,635,289 difference. The difference between those two teams is greater than any other teams payroll (other than the Yankees). The Yankees won the 2009 World Series…. Coincidence? The Yankees have won 27 World Series, the most in Major League Baseball…. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

One of the NFL’s greatest assets has been the saying “Any Given Sunday”. This saying means (possibly meant) that on any given Sunday, any team can beat any team. That means that small market teams can beat major market teams. It’s one of the reasons that the NFL has grown to be the most popular sports in American history. If the salary cap goes away permanently, then it is very possible for the balance of power to shift to the big cites and then we can say goodbye to “Any Given Sunday” and say hello to “Maybe We’ll Get Lucky This Sunday”.

Tony Pike and Mardy Gilyard in the NFL Draft

The Bearcats 2009-2010 football season ended on the sour notes of head coach Brian Kelly leaving to fill the vacant job and Notre Dame and the Sugar Bowl loss to the Florida Gators. That isn’t what fans will remember most about this past football season though. They’ll remember the excitement of Mardy Gilyard’s play and the accuracy of Tony Pike’s arm before they remember what coach went where and who won what bowl game.

Tony Pike and Mardy Gilyard both finished their collegiate careers in the greatest season ever in the 125 year history of Bearcat football. Now they move on to the NFL. Until draft day, both Pike and Gilyard will be poked and prodded like a dog in the Westminster Kennel Club. Scouts will pick them apart and name every minor fault and weakness that each player has and why that minor fault or weakness could spell disaster for any team who even thinks about drafting them. Finally, the players will showcase their physical abilities in the NFL Combine and then comes the draft. Until draft day, there is really no way of knowing what player will go to what team. There will be countless mock drafts but none of them will be right on. There is always a surprise.

Trying to predict where Pike and Gilyard will be playing next year is difficult, especially for Pike. University of Cincinnati is a small school not known for top notch NFL players and while that is slowly but surely changing, it will be a factor for Pike and Gilyard.

Gilyard will probably go first due to the fact that he is a duel threat and wide receiver is a position that can play almost immediately in the NFL. Gilyard has proved that he is a return specialist in college and NFL scouts will find that very attractive about him. They will also like his route running abilities, his ability to catch the ball, his ability to run after the catch, his attitude and his story. The NFL loves a good story and Mardy Gilyard, much like Michael Oher last year, is extremely marketable. It is fairly conceivable that Gilyard could get drafted in the early second round.

Tony Pike is a different story. Traditionally, quarterbacks don’t play right away in the NFL and the ones that do usually don’t do very well. Peyton Manning is one of the very few exceptions to this rule. Where Pike goes in the draft will completely depend on the needs of NFL teams and how desperate they are to fill those needs. If a team that needs a quarterback to start immediately drafts Pike then it will probably be fairly early in the draft; late 1st to early 3rd round. If a team drafts Pike with the plan to let him develop under a veteran started then Pike could fall anywhere from the 3rd to 5th round. Scouts will be worried about Pikes durability in the NFL because of the two broken forearms that he had playing for the Bearcats in the past two years. What the scouts will like about him is his arm strength, his accuracy, the fact that he throws a very catchable ball, he is mobile inside the pocket and can sense pressure, he keeps the ball up high on his shoulder before he throws and his physical size.

The NFL is a completely different monster than college football and for the next couple months, scouts will be breathing down Pike and Gilyard necks, trying to see exactly how they tick. Hopefully their experience at University of Cincinnati has prepared them for the biggest “job interview” of their life.

It's Been A While.... To the rest of you: I'll start posting again so I can disappoint you in the future.

Tomorrow's show is going to be a good one. We are in the middle of the NFL playoffs. Conference Championship weekend is finally here. Payton Manning (the great), Drew Brees (the on fire), Marc Sanchez (the cinderella man), and Brett Favre (the classic) are all that is left to lead their teams to greatness. Who's it going to be? You'll have to tune in tomorrow night from 6 to 8 to find out what I think.

Dan Fisk and Jake Wilson will be joining me in studio and we'll be joined by Brad Riter from Riter Radio in Buffalo, NY to talk about the Bills coaching search and the UB Bulls new coach, and former Bearcat offensive coordinator Butch Jones.

It's going to be a good show. Give us a call at 513-556-4529 so you can tell us what you think. Sorry to disappoint you; I know that it will be hard to get a full nights sleep due to the fact that you'll be tossing and turning without the sound of my voice echoing in your head. I got to say, I'm actually a little creeped out by the fact that you dream about me but that's the price of fame right?

On to the more serious matter. This would have been what we would have spent the majority of the time talking about and by this, I mean the Charlie Weis firing and who will be the next Notre Dame coach.... Brian Kelly (I hope not), Bob Stoops, Joe Shmoe, me, Bill Brasky, Tony Danza... who knows. We would have discussed more than that but to me, this is the only thing worth writing about right now.

What I want to happen is not always what happens. I think everybody can say that and if you can't I would love to walk a mile in your shoes... or maybe a million miles. I don't want Brian Kelly to leave the Cincinnati. I want him to be "Tresselized" here in Cincinnati, just without the sweater vests. I know that Kelly is the main reason that the Bearcats are 11-0 this season and why they have an outside shot at the national championship game. I know that he will soon be on "Huggy Bear" (Bob Huggins) status here in Cincinnati which means he is that much closer to being able to walk on water. I know that the city loves him. I know that with him on the sidelines, I can say with confidence "UC will play for the national championship one day". I know a lot of things. So, for you, I've listed the "why Kelly should stay list" and the "Why Kelly should go list".

Why Kelly Should Stay:
1-He's practically a celebrity here. He fits in right next to George Clooney and whoever Carmen Electra was before she was Carmen Electra
2-He is a big fish in a small pond. Let's face it, the Big East is the small pond when it comes to BCS conferences in college football. But, since it's a BCS conference, the winner still gets a BCS game. Kelly and UC could be the constant winner just like West Virginia was for years before Rich Rodriquez was before he up and left for the Big Blue.
3-Cincinnati is not South Bend. I've never been to South Bend, Indiana and outside of going to a ND game, I don't plan to. Like the vast majority of Indiana, I would guess that there is a lot of corn and cows and people with less than 32 teeth. Cincinnati has to be more exciting.... doesn't it?
4-He has a championship caliber team now. We've all seen what UC's young players can do, especially young QB Zach Collaros. Here, Kelly isn't going to have to re-build, he can re-load and have another great season. Going to Notre Dame, Kelly wouldn't have that luxury. He would have to rebuild and rebuilding teams don't have great records.
5-He doesn't want to be the next Rich Rodriguez. Rodriguez was great at WVU and now Michigan fans are calling for his head. Has he ruined his career? Maybe, only time will tell but it could be a huge risk.

Why Kelly Should Go:
1-It's Notre Dame.... Come on. Every single college coach can list Notre Dame as their dream coaching job (Kelly has). No other program has the history, the prestige, or the movie moments (Rudy still makes me cry) that you get from the Golden Domers.
2-Money. If you think UC can come close to paying Kelly what Notre Dame can then you need to go back to a 3rd grade math level. Not saying he's got a bad paycheck now but as they say "money talks"
3-He would have a chance to have his name mentioned with Ara Parseghian, Lou Holtz, and Knute Rockne as Notre Dames all time coaching greats.
4-He's Irish. Cincinnati's filled with Germans. Enough said.

Who knows what is going to happen. I can only hope but only one man can make the decision and you know who that is. Let's just focus on what the Bearcats have been able to do so far this season and hope for a win against Pitt (and a Texas loss). Don't worry, we're not changing anything drastic, we're just making the show better. We're still going to have our weekly interview with Mickey Mentzer from whodeyfans.com and we're still going to talk football.. things are just going to be organized. We're also going to introduce two new sections into the show. We're going to have a random topic debate every week and after our PTI experiment, we've decided to keep PTI as a permanent fixture on GG. This will open up the show to let our listeners (you) be more involved. There is no soccer game to interrupt so we'll be on for the full 2 hours. We'll be joined again by whodeyfans.com creator Mickey Mentzer again to talk about the Bengals game against the Texans and a look ahead at their game against the Bears. The first hour of the show, we will update and debate the latest NFL and college football news including the NFL trade deadline moves (or lack there of) and the new AP and BCS rankings (UC #5!). The second hour of the show will be fun. We're tearing a page out of the PTI book. We're going to have a list of topics and a minute or two to debate each one. It should be fun as none of us see eye to eye on anything. If you have a topic you'd like us to debate tonight, send me and email at gridirongurusonbearcast@gmail.com. It's the last time we'll be on air before #8 UC takes on the #21 South Florida Bulls in Tampa so we'll be focusing quite a big on that game and giving you our preview. Right of the bat, we'll be joined by the sports director of WXBL 1620 AM (Bulls Student Radio) Kyle Campbell. We'll talk about USF's thoughts on the game.

We'll also be joined by Mickey Mentzer from whodeyfans.com to talk about the Bengals latest last second win against the Baltimore Ravens and the fact the they sit alone on top of the AFC North.

New co-hosts Ryan Conway and Steve Bohné will join Terique and I in the studio. The show may be cut down from a two hours (6-8) to 1 hour (6-7) depending on the UC mens soccer game but I'll likely find out last minute but I'll keep you posted. I went 3 for 4 picking Cincinnati over Cleveland, Miami over Buffalo, and Pittsburgh over San Diego. The only game I lost was Tennessee (who I picked to win) losing to Jacksonville. Here were the complete stats.

Jason: 3 of 4 - 75%
Brandon: 3 of 4 - 75%
Steve: 3 of 4 - 75% (Steve picked Jacksonville to beat Tennessee but also picked Buffalo to beat Miami)
Ryan: 3 of 4 - 75%

Here are this weeks picks:
Jason: Atlanta at San Fransisco (San Fran wins), Houston at Arizona (Arizona wins), New England at Denver (New England wins), New York Jets at Miami (Miami wins), Cincinnati at Baltimore (Cincinnati wins WHODEY!)
Paul Daugherty (Cincinnati Enquirer): Atlanta at San Fransisco (San Fran wins), Houston at Arizona (Houston wins), New England at Denver (New England wins), New York Jets at Miami (Miami wins), Cincinnati at Baltimore (Baltimore wins- he went as far to say that he didn't even think the game would be close)
Mickey Mentzer (whodeyfans.com): Atlanta at San Fransisco (San Fran wins), Houston at Arizona (Arizona wins), New England at Denver (Denver wins), New York Jets at Miami (New York wins), Cincinnati at Baltimore (Cincinnati wins WHODEY!)

Hopefully I can keep my stats up pretty high. We'll see after this week.

P.S. I've noticed that Mo and Paul always have picture of hot girls in their posts... Thanks to both Paul and Mickey for calling in. Mickey will be on the show every week from here on out to talk some Bengals news.

Enough about last week though. On to this week. I have a new idea (well not so new) for this weeks show. After two straight shows with two great interviews (Mo Egger and Paul Daugherty), I think I'll take a week off on the interviews, other than the whodeyfans.com segment. I'm thinking about taking a page our of PTI's book. I thought it would be fun to bring in a bell and a stop watch and a list of topics. If you've seen PTI you then you know what comes next. If not, then this is what will happen. I'll set up an amount of time for each topic, maybe a minute. For that minute, we will debate the topics and once the bell rings, we have to move on. It could be a lot of fun. We'll do an hour of standard Gridiron Gurus and then the second hour will be the PTI experiment.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_txTgejaMGnc/Ss6HhjISXyI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/_lmNB1Fs4BQ/s320/logos_PTI+(1.5)_______________.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5390394814444494626" />

So this is what I want from you (my listeners) is a whole boat load of topics, all pertaining to football. Email them to me at gridirongurusonbearcast@gmail.com. I'll sift through them and pick out the best ones and hopefully it'll be a great show.

I expect at least a million emails. Well, maybe not a million, but I would like a lot of them. It always does. The first quarter of the '09-'10 season has been played, except for tonight's game between Brett Farve's new team and his old team. So far this season has been very surprising and very predictable somehow all at the same time. I'll start with the AFC:

One 4-0 team is the Indianapolis Colts (like we didn't see that coming) largely to the spectacular play of NFL golden boy Peyton Manning. The other 4-0 team, the Denver Broncos, has shocked everybody. With a new coach and losing franchise quarterback Jay Cutler and all the controversy surrounding Brandon Marshal, I was sure that the Broncos would struggle at least through the first half of the season but they have done the exact opposite of struggle, they've flourished.

On the opposite side of the AFC leader board may be the most shocking team so far this season. The Tennessee Titans are 0-4 after having the best record in the AFC last year (13-3). After a good year last year, quarterback Kerry Collins looks and plays his age. Is it time for Vince Young to make a comeback? The Titans aren't alone in the cellar though, they are joined by Chiefs and the Brown.

Only slightly ahead of the cellar dwellers are the 1-3 teams consisting of the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders, and Miami Dolphins. Miami may have tough times ahead after losing quarterback Chad Pennington for the season and TO hasn't seemed to have been able to do much of anything in Buffalo. "WHO SCORES TOUCHDOWNS!?!" Not you TO, at least not this year.

The 3-1 teams are also somewhat surprising. The Baltimore Ravens look like one of the teams to beat in the AFC. There is no sophomore slump for Joe Flacco. Tom Brady is back and has led the Patriots to a 3-1 record so far this year. Along with the Patriots and Ravens are the Jets with rookie signal caller Mark Sanchez and the edge of your seat Bengals led by comeback king Carson Palmer.

We'll finish the AFC in the middle. The 6 time Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-2 along with the Texans, the Jaguars, and the Chargers.

The AFC makes up an almost perfect bell curve. Now on to the NFC.

Drew Brees has led the high powered Saints offense to a 4-0 record. Along with the New York Football Giants. The Vikings are 3-0 with their new (old) quarterback Brett Farve and they will defend their undefeated record at home tonight against Brett Farve's old team, the Green Bay Packers who are 2-1.

On the opposite side of the NFC are Buccaneers, Rams, and Panthers who haven't won a game yet. Notice, the Detroit Lions aren't in this group, not that they are that much better.

The Lions finally snapped their ridiculous losing streak and put a check in the win column. They sit at 1-3 along with Seahawks. Slightly ahead of them is one of the NFC's biggest surprises. The Arizona Cardinals, last years NFC champs, are only 1-2 (bye week in week 4).

Another big surprise in the NFC is the San Fransisco 49ers with 3-1 record with signal caller Shawn Hill and no first round pick Michael Crabtree. Tough Mike Singletary seems to be doing a good job. The Bears with their new franchise QB Jay Cutler share the 3-1 pedestal with the 49ers.

At 2-1 are Packers, Falcons, and Eagles. Much like Joe Flacco in Baltimore, Matt Ryan shows no sign of a let down in season two with the Falcons.

In the middle of the NFC are the Redskins and Cowboys, both from the NFC east. The Cowboys lost their home opener in Jerry Jones new toy in front of a record crowd for an NFL regular season game and Tony Romo is doing his usual, blowing it in big moments. The Redskins haven't done much better.

It's still early but not that early. There are a lot of teams who have dug themselves a hole that will nearly be impossible to climb out of. There are also teams that are looking great and just like always, most of the teams are teetering on a knifes edge, ready to fall out of a playoff spot or ready to jump into the postseason. It's still early though... just not that early.

Remember to tune into Gridiron Gurus this Wednesday night from 6-8 on www.bearcastradio.com to hear me and Terique. It's a football post game report that sums up the last game for the Bearcats and looks ahead to the upcoming game. My co-host is a friend and another bearcast sports DJ Duane McDonald. Here is the second episode summing up the Oregon State game and looking ahead to the Fresno State Bulldogs game. WHAT!!!!!

So I'm piddling around on the old web and I stumble upon this site. Go ahead and check it out, I'll wait.

Good, you're back. What did you think? Did you see what I saw? I know I couldn't believe it either. UC as in the University of Cincinnati as in the University of Cincinnati Bearcat football team is predicted to go to the BCS National Championship game this year to face the Florida Gators. No this is not in some sort of alternate universe or parallel dimension, this is actually happening.

But this means somebody outside of Cincinnati has taken notice of the awesomely powerful Bearcat offense and adequate defense (other than Rutgers, SEMU, and Oregon State). That's right. Now check out this site. That's right, UC quarterback Tony Pike is on ESPN's Heisman Watch List. Have I blown your mind yet?

I know what you're thinking; you're thinking, "Jason, it's way to early to be talking or even thinking about this. It's only week three." You're right, it is only week three but when was the last time you saw a Bearcat quarterback on the Heisman Watch List and when was the last time you noticed that UC was predicted to play in the BCS National Championship game? That's right.... never. Just the fact that others are taking notice is exciting.

This is complete and total proof that this football team is moving in one direction, the right direction. It's an exciting time to be a Bearcat fan and as long as things keep going the way they are, it won't be getting dull any time soon.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://gridirongurusonair.blogspot.com/2009/09/uc-projected-to-play-in-what.html' title='UC Projected to Play in............ We've had a couple good interviews and a slew of special guest including family members and friends. We've had a blast so far but now it's time to kick it into that extra gear and put our game faces on.

School starts today (Wednesday the 25th) and so does Gridiron Gurus (or re-starts) as far as I'm concerned. UC is ranked 14th in the new AP Poll (only one spot behind our "big brother" Ohio State) and more than one college football bowl prediction site have predicted that the Bearcats will face off against the Gators in the BCS National Championship game. That's right, you aren't seeing things. You may not be buying it (yet) but there are some respected members of the sporting world that are selling it.

Also, the Bengals went to Green Bay this past weekend and brought home a much needed win for the fans of the orange and black. I don't care what you think of him, but I would be willing to bet that you were smiling when Chad Ochocinco did the Lambeau Leap after his touchdown. To top it off, the Steelers lost to a team that beat the team that we just beat (I think that makes sense... maybe it means something, it probably doesn't but maybe).

Bottom line, it's an exciting time to be a football fan in Cincy and my job is going to be to make it even better. Terique and I will try to get a guest on every week and interviews as often as we can. Don't hesitate to email us at gridirongurusonbearcast@gmail.com to hear your opinions and thoughts and call us in the studio on Wednesday nights from 6 to 8 at 513-314-9087.

Our first show this fall is going to be a great one. We will hit you with our thoughts on the latest and biggest NFL and NCAA football news and we'll pick our winners for the next weekend's games. Also we'll be joined by Brad Riter of Riter Radio, 4-7pm Monday through Friday on WECK-AM 1230 in Buffalo, NY and WLVL-AM 1340 in Lockport to talk about the Bills and of course T.O.

So make sure you tune in this Wednesday night from 6 to 8 and every Wednesday night to hear me and Terique on Gridiron Gurus.

-Jason Garrison

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_txTgejaMGnc/SrmuevdrCdI/AAAAAAAAAOI/RwRJv5ZSNhA/s320/5735_122699398784_666578784_2263147_5319931_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5384526672658368978" />

1st Show Back

What can I say, it was awesome to be back in the studio after a month long break. The show tonight was awesome. Unfortunately, Terique couldn't make it in but a good friend of mine, Kyle, filled in and in case you didn't listen, the special guest was my dad. I've been trying to get him on the show for a long time and finally he agreed. It was a good time.

The game that I mentioned called "Has the Student Become the Master" ended up not really working out. Well my special guest (my dad) would say the student hasn't become the master yet. Here was the whole premise of the game: I wrote down 5 football questions and he did the same and while the theme to Jeopardy was playing, Kyle asked my questions to him and his questions to me and well... you get the idea.

Well an example of my questions was: Fill in the blank... Michael (blank) Turner. The obvious answer, football fans, is of course his nickname Burner as in Michael Burner Turner. An example of his dumb questions is: Who was the field goal kicker from UC (University of Cincinnati) who kicked a field goal in a super bowl for the Baltimore Colts..... No, trust me, you read it right... the Baltimore Colts.. a football team that doesn't exist anymore. Obviously he says he won but I think otherwise because his questions were from before I was born.

Next week's show will be great, it'll be the week after college football opening weekend and it'll be the Wednesday before opening kickoff in the NFL. There will be tons to talk about especially the recap of UC's huge opening game at Rutgers.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_txTgejaMGnc/Sp8iEk0QtCI/AAAAAAAAAN4/qX2YPglovwg/s320/orange+bowl.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377053942101357602" />
Will I be in Miami again to watch UC play in the Orange Bowl on New Years Day again this year? I sure as hell hope so... it was awesome last year.

Thanks for listening,
-Jason

Brett Didn't Stop

Well obviously Brett doesn't read our site very much or he would have seen my article about him. Oh well, it's okay. I'm watching him play in Houston right now so maybe UC's own Connor Barwin will make him feel like he made the wrong decision to wear purple. I'm not writing to talk about Farve today though... thank God. I'm writing to tell you that Gridiron Gurus is back starting this Wednesday night from 6 to 8 on bearcastradio.com. Terique and I will be joined by special guest Kyle King who will help us debate the return of Vick and Farve and other NFL news. We'll also be joined by a special guest who will play a new game with me called "Has the Student Become the Master". Oh well, I will try again this Friday but there are only two more weeks between now and when Terique and I will be able to broadcast the show on the original night and time which is Wednesday nights from 6 to 8.

Enough of that though. This morning I got out of the shower and turned on Sports Center like I do every morning. What do you think was the first thing I heard as I was getting dressed?.... Brett Farve. It seams that we have been duped again, football fans. Brett Farve said that he would not play for the Minnesota Vikings this year and he was going to hang up the cleats (again) and keep what ever shred of self respect he has left. Finally, I thought, just like everybody else, that he was finally done for good. Unfortunately I was wrong though, because it seems that Brett has still been talking to the Vikings front office and even players in the Vikings locker room were telling the press that Brett and the Vikings were a "done deal" and that he would undoubtedly be in purple by the third preseason game.

Brett, I understand it's hard to walk away from certain things. Anybody who has ever played a sport they love has understood how you must feel. You have been fortunate enough to play this countries most popular sport (and in my opinion, the world greatest sport) at the highest level possible and you did it with a style and attitude that caused an entire city and state and most of the country to love and respect you for it. You are a shoo-in to have your name engraved in a wall in Canton, Ohio next to the likes of Joe Montana, Bart Star, John Elway, and Joe Namath. You have a superbowl ring. What else could you want?

I would rather not watch you ruin your legacy by popping back into the game every year after you have already announced your retirement. One, it's annoying and two, if you don't play like the Brett Farve in his prime then you will always be remembered as an old washed up Brett Farve. Brett, please stop. I don't want to start disliking you.

Gridiron Gurus will hopefully be on air this Friday (21st) from 6 to 8. I knew that Mike Vick would sign with a team as soon as Goodell reinstated him. I just never though that the team that would sign him would be my favorite NFC team and my second favorite team overall, the Philadelphia Eagles.

This is a team with a franchise quarterback in Donovan Mcnabb that would have no need to sign another quarterback. However, Vick, it seems, will be playing a wide out spot. He could also play running back in certain formations, hell he could probably play any position other than offensive line.

I don't like Vick. I never really have liked him. I don't like his style of play, I don't like his attitude, and I don't like his punk-ass brother (You'll see why here). However, when the Eagles signed Mike Vick, I'm almost positive that the coaches for the Giants, the Redskins, and the Cowboys just said one word....... "Crap".

</a
Signing Vick has made the Eagles a much more dangerous team.

Welcome to Gridiron Gurus

Gridiron Gurus is a radio show on bearcastradio.com. As you can guess from the title of the show, it's about football and yes we are gurus. By we, I mean me (Jason Garrison) and my co-host (Terique Scott). We also have a plethora of special guests. We have had Darren Hollywood, from whodeyfans.com and cincifan.com who is a good friend of mine. We have also had my good friend Chris Gibfried who specializes in comic relief and we've had my other good friend Kevin Brown who helps us break down college football from time to time.

If you've listened to the show, I hope you like it and have continued to listen. If you haven't listened, you definitely should, and this is what you're missing. Terique and I agree on nothing. If I say black, he says white and if he said the grass was green I would find a reason to disagree.

Terique is a run and gun fan. He likes the Michael Vick and Randall Cunningham style of quarterbacks that can get it done with their legs just as well as with their arm. While I respect a scrambling quarterback, I don't really care for that style of offense. I've always believed that a team needs a good pocket passer and a strong running game in order to win the big games. Even though that is a big difference in preferences, it is just the tip of the iceberg.

You can catch the show on Wednesday nights on bearcastradio.com from 6 to 8 (just click "listen now"). For the next three weeks though, the show will be on Friday nights from 6 to 8. We will be back on Wednesday nights starting on September 2nd. Tune in, listen up, and if you feel like it, call in (513-556-4529). We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks a lot,
Jason Garrison and Terique Scott

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_txTgejaMGnc/SoLxxZQANXI/AAAAAAAAANw/aUuxE_nhZ0c/s320/studio.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369119536672945522" />
